Just west of Spring Lake Park on Lynda Street, according to the police, there have been numerous reports of gunfire. Then they got a call saying that a baseball player had collapsed and might have been shot. The two incidents were connected, therefore the police started an investigation.

The baseball player was rushed to St. Michael Hospital for surgery to treat the gunshot wound. The Texarkana Texas Police Department found several spent shell casings in the front yard of the residence on Lynda Street and determined that the incident began as a disturbance at that location. It eventually led to two men shooting at each other in front of the home, resulting in one of the bullets striking the baseball player on the field.

The suspects involved in the shooting have been identified as 17-year-old Kamauri Butler and 20-year-old Demarco Banks. The police have issued felony warrants for their arrest, with Butler wanted for aggravated assault and Banks for deadly conduct. Following the shooting, both suspects left the area.

Three other guys who were at the house where the commotion occurred, in addition to Butler and Banks, were also detained. Nathan Moore (19) was detained for tampering with evidence and marijuana possession, Marcell Beaver (19) was detained for marijuana possession, and Yankeengea Smith (49) was detained for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine and Ecstasy pills).

The baseball player who was shot is currently in stable condition and is expected to recover. The game was called off, and the Scout-O-Rama event that was happening in another area of the park was also shut down early as a precaution in the immediate aftermath. The police have asked anyone with information about the incident or who knows where Kamauri Butler or Demarco Banks can be found to contact Texarkana Area Crime Stoppers at 903-793-STOP.
