Typhoon "JENNY" continues to strengthen as it moves northwestward over the Philippine Sea, posing possible threats to a variety of places. Here are the main points:
Heavy Rainfall Outlook
Expect heavy rain from now until tomorrow noon:
Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and northern mainland Cagayan will receive 50-100 mm of rain.
From tomorrow at noon till Wednesday at noon:
Batanes has a rainfall range of 100-200 mm.
50-100 mm in the Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and northern Cagayan and Apayao.
Higher rainfall may occur in mountainous or elevated places, increasing the risk of flooding and landslides, particularly in vulnerable areas highlighted on hazard maps.
Southwest Monsoon Influence
Typhoon "JENNY" will strengthen the Southwest Monsoon over the next three days, bringing monsoon rainfall to western sections of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. For more information, see Weather Advisory No. 4 for the Southwest Monsoon.
Severe Winds:
Wind warnings have been issued to alert the public to potential wind hazards. Winds may be slightly greater in coastal and upland/mountainous places exposed to winds. Wind Signal No. 1 may have only small effects.
Wind Signal No. 2 is most likely to be hoisted, with Wind Signal No. 3 likely. Windy conditions can be expected in areas that do not have a Wind Signal, notably along the coast and in upland/mountainous areas.
Coastal Waters Hazards
The northern and eastern seaboard of Northern Luzon are under a Gale Warning because of JENNY's effect. Seas will be moderate to rough off the coast of Isabela (2.0 to 4.0 meters). Sailors are recommended to take precautions and avoid navigating in these conditions if possible.
Track and Intensity Forecast
JENNY is expected to move northwestward before moving westward or northwestward. On Thursday, the storm is expected to make landfall over southern Taiwan before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) over the Taiwan Strait. Although a Batanes landfall scenario is still possible, the probability is reducing.
According to the most recent data:
- Location of Eye/Center: About 600 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan (19.3°N, 127.2°E).
- Movement: 15 km/h northwestward
- Strength: Maximum sustained winds in the center of 140 km/h, with gusts up to 170 km/h.
