Eleven Killed in Binondo Building Fire
MANILA, Philippines — A fire on Carvajal Street in Binondo, Manila, killed eleven people on Friday.
Nelson Ty, a village administrator from Barangay 289 Zone 27, verified the fatalities in interviews with DZBB and DZRH, which included the building's owner's wife.
"The owner's wife is among the casualties on the building's third floor," Ty stated in Filipino.
Ty believed that she may have been trying to retrieve things from the blaze and became stuck.
The Manila Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office said the first alarm went off at 7:28 a.m., followed by the second at 8:14 a.m. The fire was declared under control at 9:31 a.m. and It went out at 10:03 a.m.
