Parts of Luzon are affected by floods and heavy rain from Typhoon Falcon
As it continues to strengthen the southwest monsoon, or habagat, typhoon Falcon (international name: Khanun) has caused flooding and severe rain to sections of Luzon, particularly in the western and northern provinces. The last time a Falcon was seen, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), was at 4 a.m., 1,000 kilometers to the east of Basco, Batanes. on July 31, a Monday. There are gusts of up to 170 kph and a maximum sustained wind speed of 140 kph. It is currently traveling at 15 kph toward the north-northwest and is anticipated to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Tuesday AM.
Due to the combined effects of Falcon and the habagat, PAGASA issued a warning for moderate to heavy rains over the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and Western Visayas. Additionally, these regions are under tropical cyclone wind signal number 1, which indicates that winds of 30 to 60 kph may be anticipated in at least 36 hours. Particularly in low-lying and mountainous locations, residents of these areas are encouraged to take preventative precautions against potential flash floods and landslides.
As a result of the habagat, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will encounter cloudy skies, sporadic rain showers, and thunderstorms. Due to localized thunderstorms, the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with sporadic rain showers or thunderstorms.
The eastern and western coasts of Southern Luzon, as well as the coasts of Central Luzon, are all in danger of rough seas, according to PAGASA, which also warned against traveling by water across the coasts of areas covered by signal number 1.
Falcon is the second tropical cyclone this month following Tropical Depression Egay, which also strengthened the habagat earlier this week. Falcon is the sixth tropical cyclone to approach PAR this year.
