LRT2 commuters will pay higher fares beginning on August 2

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has stated that fare increases will start on August 2 and affect commuters using the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT2) in a big way.

In a recent statement, the DOTr said that in order to utilize the rail line, users of stored value or "beep" cards will now need to carry a minimum of P14, up from the previous P12. Aside from that, the top cost from Recto Station to Antipolo Station will increase from P28 to P33.

The lowest fee for single-journey tickets will continue at P15, but the maximum fare will now be P35 rather than P30 as it was previously.

However, the DOTr has guaranteed that the 20% discount on fares that are currently given to PWDs, seniors, and students will continue.

The goal of the fare adjustments was emphasized by the DOTr in its advisory, which stated that "the additional fare will be used to improve the facilities and services of LRT2."

It's important to remember that earlier, Jaime Bautista, the secretary for transportation, stated that the Marcos administration had issued a directive delaying the fare increases for both the LRT1 and LRT2 lines. The requirement for a thorough analysis to determine the financial impact on passengers served as the basis for this action.

Along the Marcos Highway, the elevated LRT2 connects 13 stations between Recto in Manila and Antipolo.

Commuters will probably need to adapt their transportation expenses as the fare hikes approach to allow for the new pricing system designed to improve the LRT2's facilities and services.
