The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) declared late Thursday night that the low-pressure area (LPA) off Quezon has intensified into Tropical Depression "Dodong."

Dodong is currently located roughly 55 kilometers east-northeast of Casiguran, Aurora, according to Pagasa. With maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h at its center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h, it is traveling in a north-northwesterly direction at a pace of 20 km/h.

At 11 p.m. Pagasa warned that the presence of Dodong, which was intensifying the southwest monsoon or "habagat," could result in heavy rainfall over the following three days.

Numerous regions, including Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, Palawan, Antique, and Western Visayas are expected to experience severe rainfall beginning on Friday.

Pagasa issued a warning of the possibility of landslides and flooding, especially in areas that are very or extremely susceptible to these dangers.

Dodong is anticipated to keep moving mainly northwest and west-northwest, possibly passing Northern Luzon by Friday lunchtime, according to the forecast. The tropical depression is expected to continue moving northwest after forming over the waters west of the Ilocos Region and could leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Saturday or Sunday.

According to Pagasa, Dodong is likely to continue to be classified as a tropical depression for the length of its time in the PAR. However, when it passes past the PAR, there is a chance that it might grow into a tropical storm by late Saturday or early Sunday.
