International Aid Trickles into Eastern Libya Amidst Devastation

International relief efforts are starting to take place as eastern Libya struggles to recover from a devastating natural disaster. There are serious concerns that a significant number of individuals may be buried behind piles of mud and debris in the area, especially the city of Derna, which has been left in ruins.

Derna's heartbreaking scenes show entire towns sadly being carried into the sea, adding to the already catastrophic situation. Food and safe drinking water are two things that are in short supply, which has made life even more miserable for the survivors. Given the significant harm done to bridges and roads by the disaster, it is extremely difficult for relief personnel to access the areas that are most badly affected.

Local hospitals have been used as temporary morgues because of the enormous extent of the loss. The tragic death toll highlights how serious the situation is and emphasizes how urgent it is to get international aid.
