Senate President Escudero Announces Major Committee Reorganization
MANILA, Philippines - Senate President Francis Escudero has announced a restructuring of Senate committee chairmanships following his takeover of the presidency from Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri on May 20, 2024.
New Committee Chairmanships:
- Economic Affairs: Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri (previously held by Senator Mark Villar)
- Government Corporations and Public Enterprises: Senator Mark Villar (previously held by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano)
- Trade and Industry: Senator Alan Peter Cayetano (previously held by Senator Mark Villar)
- Energy: Senator Pia Cayetano (previously held by Senator Raffy Tulfo)
- Finance: Senator Grace Poe (previously held by Senator Sonny Angara)
- Higher, Technical, and Vocational Education: Senator Alan Peter Cayetano (previously held by Senator Francis Escudero)
- Justice and Human Rights: Senator Sonny Angara (previously held by Senator Francis Tolentino)
- Sustainable Development Goals: Senator Nancy Binay (previously held by Senator Pia Cayetano)
- Labor and Employment: Senator Joel Villanueva (previously held by Senator Jose Estrada)
- Public Services: Senator Raffy Tulfo (previously held by Senator Grace Poe)
- Tourism: Senator Lito Lapid (previously held by Senator Nancy Binay)
- Urban Planning, Housing, and Resettlement: Senator Imee Marcos (previously held by Senator JV Ejercito)
- Ethics: Senator Francis Tolentino (previously held by Senator Nancy Binay)
- Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Oversight Committee: Senate President Pro Tempore Jose Estrada
Continuity in Leadership:
Some senators have retained their chairmanships to ensure continuity in legislative work:
- Senator JV Ejercito remains the chair of the Committee on Local Governments.
- Senator Loren Legarda continues to lead the Committee on Culture and the Arts.
- Senator Sherwin Gatchalian retains chairmanship of the Committees on Basic Education and Ways and Means.
