Marcos to Sign Negros Island Region Bill into Law on June 13

BACOLOD CITY — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will sign legislation to establish the Negros Island Region On Thursday, June 13.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson of Negros Occidental has been invited to witness the ceremonial signing of Senate Bill No. 2507 and House Bill No. 7355, titled "An Act Establishing The Negros Island Region," at the Ceremonial Hall of Malacañan Palace. On Thursday.

Secretary Mark Llandro Mendoza, Presidential Adviser on Legislative Affairs, extended the invitation to the governor on Tuesday, June 11.

The NIR will consist of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor. Negros Occidental is currently a part of Western Visayas, whereas Negros Oriental and Siquijor are in Central Visayas. Representatives from Negros Island and Siquijor authored House Bill No. 7355.

Local politicians and business leaders on Negros Island believe that President Marcos' signing of the NIR bills into law will bring into reality a long-held dream and boost the local economy through integrated development.
